Oscar De La Hoya AKA “The Golden Boy” will step in the ring after a 13-year absence on September 11, 2021, when he squares off against Vitor Belfort. The fight will take place in Las Vegas and has been confirmed to be an 8 round exhibition match with each round lasting 2 minutes. Both fighters will wear 12-ounce gloves and speaking to DAZN news, Triller founder Ryan Kavanaugh said the whole idea of this fight was to make it part of the TrillerVerzuz Fight Club Mexican Independence Day weekend.
This event will feature everything from concerts, rap battles as well as the fight itself. Hip hop legendary producers Timbaland and Swiss Beatz will be in charge of entertaining the crowd. De La Hoya had teased fans way back in March that a comeback was on the cards and was scheduled to fight former UFC star and all-time great Georges St-Pierre however, talks fell through. St-Pierre was still under contract with UFC and wasn’t cleared in time to fight. The last time De La Hoya was in the ring, he lost to Manny Pacquiao in December 2008.
Vitor Belfort, on the other hand, was scheduled to fight Mike Holston also known as “The Real Tarzann” on the Teofimo Lopez-George Kambosos Jr. undercard, however, Lopez tested positive for COVID 19, and the card got scrapped. Belfort will be fighting in just his second professional boxing match. His last boxing match was in April 2006, where he knocked out Jose Mario Neves.
